  9. Exhibit Title: "A Mormon Sunstone from the Nauvoo Temple, Illinois, and the Mormon Trek to Salt Lake, Utah, 1846-47"

This exhibit is an expansion of the foyer display featuring the Nauvoo Temple sunstone (a carved limestone capital from the temple built by the Church in Nauvoo in 1841-46). The pioneer trek component of the exhibit deals with the exodus from Nauvoo under pressure, and the physical and spiritual journey west. This small panel will feature a Bible and a carpenter's plane use in Nauvoo, carried west in the 1850s, and used in Utah. The idea is a religious people moving "with faith in every footstep" from one temple city to another. Illustrations include depictions of both temples and of the trek.
